Search & Command Palette

OTS Signs has one search entry point: the Command Palette. Open it from the sidebar search control or with the keyboard shortcut.

Windows / LinuxCtrl K

The palette has two modes:

  1. Pages — when the query is empty or very short, it lists navigation items you have permission to visit. Type a section name (displays, audit, notifications) to jump to it.
  2. Entities — once you type at least 2 characters, it searches items in the system by name:
    • Displays
    • Display Groups
    • Media (Library)
    • Layouts
    • Playlists
    • Campaigns
    • Time Windows (Dayparts)
    • Groups (visible only to administrators)

Entity results are grouped by type and color-coded with a small dot per category.

Results are sorted by type, then by best match within each type. Entity searches are case-insensitive and match anywhere in the name (not just the start), so searching lunch finds Saratoga Cafe — Lunch Promo.

The search is debounced by 150 ms — when you stop typing for a fraction of a second, results refresh.

The palette has type chips along the top. Click a chip to limit results to that type (e.g. only Displays). Click again to remove the filter. You can combine multiple chips.

  • Media file contents — it searches names and tags only, not pixels or audio.
  • Schedule contents — schedules are not directly searchable. Find them through their layout, campaign, or display.
  • Audit-trail entries — use the Audit Trail page for that.
  • Settings, Permissions, or Folder Tree — these have their own filters on each page.

You only see results you have permission to view. If you and a colleague run the same search, you may see different results because of folder permissions, role differences, or Navigation Overrides.

Newly granted permissions can take up to 60 seconds to appear in search results because of permission caching. If a result is missing right after a permission change, wait a minute and try again.

  • Just type a noun. “Display 3” or “lunch promo” usually works without thinking about types.
  • Use the palette to navigate. Faster than scrolling the sidebar — cmd-k, type audit, press Enter.
  • Open a layout from anywhere. When you remember a layout’s name but not where it lives, the palette is faster than the Layouts list.
