Playlists

A Playlist is an ordered list of media items that play one after another. Use playlists when you need looping content without the multi-region complexity of a Layout — simple promo loops, single-region menu boards, lobby reels.

How to get there: Sidebar → Playlists, or /playlists.

Folder tree on the left, table on the right. The header has one action: + New Playlist (write permission required).

The toolbar provides search and a Type filter (Manual / Dynamic).

ManualDynamic
You add and reorder items by hand in the Timeline editor.Items are pulled from the library by filter rules.
The list is fixed until you change it.The list updates automatically as media matching the filters is added or removed.
Best for hand-curated promotion sequences.Best for “every video tagged summer-promo, max 10”.

The table is built from the playlist columns module. Common columns:

  • Name — clickable; opens the playlist detail page.
  • Folder — folder path or root.
  • TypeManual or Dynamic badge (filterable from the toolbar).
  • Duration — total playback duration when known.
  • Updated — last modified date.
  • Timeline — shortcut to the manual playlist timeline editor.
  • Actions — row menu for edit, schedule, move, duplicate, and delete.

If the list is too large to show all at once, a notice asks you to narrow the results.

Click + to open the Add Playlist dialog. It has three tabs:

  • Name (required)
  • Description (optional)
  • Code — external reference code, e.g. for ERP integration.
  • Tags — comma-separated.
  • Folder — defaults to the currently selected folder; “Root” otherwise.
  • TypeManual (default) or Dynamic. Switching to Dynamic reveals the Filters tab.
FieldWhat it does
Media Name FilterSubstring match on media name.
Name Filter OperatorOR / AND — combines name with tag filter.
Media Tags FilterComma-separated tag list.
Tags Filter OperatorOR (any) / AND (all).
Filter by FolderRestrict to one folder, or All.
Max ItemsCap on the number of media items pulled in.
  • Stats CollectionOn / Off / Inherit (proof-of-play stats).
  • Manage Permissions (existing playlists only) — opens the object permissions dialog.
  • Duplicate — duplicate this playlist with a new name.
  • Convert to Global — for inline (region-scoped) playlists; promotes to a global playlist usable from any layout.

The dialog footer also has an Add Media button (existing playlists) which opens the media picker without leaving the dialog.

For manual playlists, the Timeline action (row context menu, ListVideo icon) opens the timeline editor — drag and drop media into the order you want, set per-item duration, transitions, and audio settings.

For dynamic playlists, the timeline reflects the current evaluation but isn’t directly editable; you change membership by editing the filter rules instead.

ActionNotes
TimelineOpens the timeline editor.
ScheduleJumps to the Schedules page pre-filled with this playlist.
EditOpens the create / edit dialog.
Move to FolderFolder picker; the playlist is updated server-side with the new folder.

Select rows with the checkboxes:

  • Tag N playlists — apply tags via picker.
  • Delete N — two-step bulk delete.

On the Media Library, right-clicking a folder offers Add All to Playlist. It bulk-adds every media item in that folder to a playlist you pick (or a new one you create on the spot). On the Playlists page, selecting a folder filters the playlist list to that folder.

  • Global playlists are listed on this page and can be referenced by any layout.
  • Inline playlists are created inside a layout region and aren’t listed here. The Convert to Global action on the Advanced tab promotes an inline playlist to global so other layouts can use it.
  • The page appears only when your role includes playlist access.
  • Create, Edit, Move, Duplicate, and bulk Tag require playlist write or create permission.
  • Delete (single or bulk) requires playlist delete permission.
  • Folder right-click actions honor folder permissions.
  • Media Library — sources for playlist items.
  • Layouts — embed a playlist as a region’s content.
  • Schedules — assign playlists to displays.
  • Tags — drives dynamic playlist filtering.
