Player Software

Player Software

Player Software is where you upload and manage the player application files that run on your display hardware. OTS Signs distributes these files to displays so they can update themselves to a new version.

Where to find it: sidebar → Admin group → Player Software.

For each player type you support, you can have one or more software versions on file. OTS Signs tracks:

  • The type of player it’s for (Android, ChromeOS, Linux, SSSP, Tizen, WebOS, Windows).
  • The version.
  • A numeric code used to identify the release.
  • The display version that players show in their UI.
  • The actual installer or package file.

When a display checks in, OTS Signs may instruct it to download a newer version based on what’s been assigned to its display profile.

ColumnMeaning
TypePlayer type the file is for. Always shown.

CodeNumeric version code. Higher means newer. Visible on medium screens and up.
Display VersionWhat the player shows in its own UI. Visible on medium screens and up.

Right-click any row to Download, Edit, or Delete the entry.

  1. Click the + button in the top-right.
  2. In the dialog:
    • Type — pick the player type this file is for.
    • File — choose the installer or package (.apk for Android, etc.).
    • Version — optional. If omitted, OTS Signs fills it in when possible.
    • Code — optional. If omitted, OTS Signs fills it in when possible.
  3. Click Upload.

Large files take a moment. The new version appears at the top of the list when the upload finishes.

Right-click a row → Edit. You can change:

  • Version — the version label.
  • Code — the numeric version code.
  • Display Version — what the player shows in its UI.

You can’t replace the file itself through the edit dialog — to switch the file, delete the entry and upload a fresh one.

Right-click → Download to fetch the original installer. Useful if you need to reinstall a player by hand.

Right-click → Delete. The deletion is permanent and can’t be undone, so make sure no display profile is set to roll players back to this version before removing it.

”OTS sent me a new player APK to install”

Section titled “”OTS sent me a new player APK to install””

Upload it here, then either contact support to have them roll it out, or open the relevant display profile and pick the new version under the Software or Updates tab. Players pick up the change at their next check-in.

”An update broke our players and we need to roll back”

Section titled “”An update broke our players and we need to roll back””

Make sure the previous version is still in the list (it usually is). Open the display profile and switch the assigned version back to the older one. Players will downgrade at their next check-in.

  • Displays — see which version each display is currently running.
